The Sun
2022
New Mexico earth and mineral pigments and piñon ash on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
The sun is the star at the center of our solar system, without whose light there would be no life on earth. The sun represents one’s way of being in the world, our conscious mind, and our will to live. The sun rules over fire sign Leo and gives the lion its loyalty and vitality. The dazzling star governs over creativity and our life force.
This painting of the Sun is made from golden dirt collected at Ghost Ranch and a micaceous rock found at Moon Horse Ranch. Made for all those longing for deeper vitality in this life.
The Moon
2022
New Mexico earth and mineral pigments on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
The smallest of all the celestial bodies of the zodiac, the moon has the greatest gravitational pull upon us, pulling the tides of our oceans on earth and our own inner waters. The moon represents our deepest needs and longings, our childhoods, the cyclical nature of all things. The moon has long been associated with fertility, mother nature, and the feminine. The moon is the ruler of the sign Cancer, lending empathy and intuition to the water sign, giving one the ability to move between the spiritual and material realms.
This painting of the moon was made in honor of the last blood moon eclipse of the year, made from pigments the color of the Belt of Venus collected along a highway to a campsite I used to visit as a child, and rocks collected on walks at Moon Horse Ranch. Made for all those longing for the hidden to be revealed, and to recover the lost longings of childhood.
Mercury
2022
New Mexico dirt and micaceous rock and juniper ash on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
Flooded by the sun and a little larger than our moon, the planet Mercury is named after the ancient god with winged feet who carried messages back and forth between heaven and earth. Mercury protected travelers and merchants of grain and escorted the dead to the underworld.
In astrology the planet rules over the mind, reason, and language, and the reconciliation of conflicts. In retrograde Mercury lends itself to mischief and thieves. Mercury governs Gemini and Virgo, giving them the ability to think swiftly on their feet and express their thoughts and ideas clearly. Mercury drives the Gemini’s ability to ask deep questions and their hunt for reason. Mercury influences Virgo through the need to create patterns and cycles within the day.
This painting of Mercury is made from New Mexico dirt, micaceous rock collected at Moon Horse Ranch, and the ashes of a juniper tree. Made for all seeking to express the thoughts of their minds more clearly and for those longing for a messenger between death and life.
Venus
2022
New Mexico micaceous rock on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
The planet Venus is the warmest planet in our solar system, blanketed in westward moving winds, named after the ancient goddess of love. Venus rules over beauty, passion, and pleasure, especially with another being. Venus governs Taurus and Libra, and speaks to the way we express our desires. Venus governs over what we value, the pleasure we find in life, the arts. Venus is the guardian planet of Libra, and what draws this sign to beauty, balance, and the protection of peace. Taurus is also ruled by Venus, which helps them find joy in art and inspiration in the natural world.
This painting of Venus is made from micaceous rock collected at Moon Horse Ranch in New Mexico, that will sparkle in the light, and for all those longing to get more in touch with their desires, passions, and creative selves.
Mars
2022
New Mexico mineral pigments on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
The planet Mars is a dusty, cold, desert mountain world, named after the Roman god of war. Mars is the planet of energy, adventure, and survival. Mars rules over deep Scorpio and fire sign Aries. When repressed the passions of Mars can lead to war and destruction; but when channeled peacefully they manifest as deeply grounding energy.
This painting of Mars is made from red and purple rocks collected at Moon Horse Ranch and is made for all those looking to find deeper grounding or embarking on a new adventure.
Jupiter
2022
New Mexico earth and mineral pigments on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
The largest of all the planets, Jupiter is named after the king of the ancient Roman gods. Striped by winds of gas, the eye of Jupiter is a 150 year old storm that is 100,000 miles long. Jupiter is the guardian of the abstract mind and rules over growth, healing, miracles, and our deep rooted beliefs. Jupiter represents abundance and rules over fire sign Sagittarius, lending itself to risk taking and the ability to explore both internal and external worlds.
This painting of Jupiter is made from New Mexico dirt and rock, some collected at Moon Horse Ranch, some along a highway to a campsite I went to as a child. This painting is made for all those questioning their own paradigms and exploring the landscapes of their spirit.
Saturn
2022
New Mexico earth and mineral pigments on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
Encircled by thousands of rings made of dust and ice, Saturn is named after the Roman god of time and harvest, the father of Jupiter. According to myth, Saturn taught his people to farm the land. Saturn rules over earth sign Capricorn, and is timekeeper of the Zodiac. Saturn teaches us to sow our seeds, to tend to our fields, that everything has its own season.
This painting of Saturn is made from New Mexico dirt and rock, some collected at Moon Horse Ranch, some gathered from a cliff above a river where my mother used to take me camping when I was little. Made for all those tending the soil, sowing their seeds in darkness, longing for rebirth, ushering in a new life.
Uranus
2022
Earth and mineral pigments on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
The seventh planet from the sun and named after the Greek god of the sky, Uranus is made mostly of ice and rotates east to west. Known as the planet of liberation and freedom, Uranus rules the air sign Aquarius. The energy of Uranus is intuitive and can lead to invention.
This painting of Uranus is made from pigments I bought from an eastern Orthodox monk eleven years ago when I was just beginning to learn about earth and mineral pigments in an iconography course, as well as a rock found this past year at Moon Horse Ranch. Made for all those seeking to recover their intuition and find a way where there is no way.
Neptune
2022
Earth and mineral pigments on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
Cold, dark, and windy, Neptune is named after the Roman god of the sea. Neptune governs inspiration, dreams, and the spiritual. Neptune rules the subconscious, the things below the surface, that which remains unseen. Ruler of the mystical water sign Pisces, Neptune relates to the realms that cannot be explained, that remain a mystery.
This painting of Neptune is made from pigments I bought from an eastern Orthodox monk eleven years ago when I was just beginning to learn about earth and mineral pigments in an iconography course, as well as a rock found this past year at Moon Horse Ranch. Made for all those longing for clarity and discernment in their dreams, for revelation in places of mystery.
Pluto
2022
New Mexico earth and mineral pigments and piñon ash on cotton
Painting 8 x 10"
Framed 11 x 13”
Pluto is a dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt, a ring of bodies beyond the planet Neptune. The little planet is home to a string of ice volcanoes and named after the Roman god of the underworld. Pluto represents transformation and renewal, and rules over the planet Scorpio, giving the sign a desire for regeneration. In some myths Pluto is believed to be connected to the recovery of inner fire, and our ability to hold forgiveness.
This painting of Pluto is made from earth pigments collected at Ghost Ranch, mineral pigments from Moon Horse Ranch, and the ashes of a piñon tree. Made for all those seeking to grow their regenerative practices, within their own bodies and spirits, and on the land that so tenderly holds and forgives us.
